ft-fisher-museumFort Fisher State Historic Site

The most visited historic site in North Carolina!  During the American Civil War, Fort Fisher, a Confederate fort,  protected the port at Wilmington.

The Cape Fear River was used to keep supplies moving to the Confederate troops.

The Battle of Fort Fisher was the largest naval attack and land-sea battle fought in any war at that time.  A fleet of 56 ships attacked and captured Fort Fisher in a six hour battle which destroyed the supply line to the Confederates.  This was very significant to the end of the Civil War, which ended three months later.

This historic site displays the remains of Fort Fisher, exhibits of the Civil War, re-enactment of the battle with great sound effects, and a fiber-optic map featuring thousands of moving lights demonstrating the final hours.  Don't miss this great history attraction!

Dining and Shopping

One of the best parts of vacationing is the food.  It's a given that the best seafood is found at the beach.  Just about every where you look, you will find a restaurant serving fantastic locally caught seafood.  You will find everything from hamburgers, pizza, steaks, Italian, Mexican, and that famous southern style home cooking restaurants to upscale five star restaurants.
